Moira Crossman

Moira Crossman’s pathway in sculpture spans over two decades, originating from her graduation from the Otago Polytechnic School of Fine Arts in 1986. With an unwavering commitment to her craft, she further cultivated her artistic talent by completing her Master of Fine Arts degree.

Her artistic influence over the past 20 years is evident through frequent exhibitions in Dunedin and the Maniatoto, along with active participation in Stone Symposiums across the South Island, from Invercargill to Picton. Notably, Moira's portfolio includes several noteworthy large-scale commissions, among them the majestic 'Te Ara O Kiwa I Te Mauri O Takaroa'—a grand Whale's tail carved from blue stone (measuring 1.7 x 1.6 meters) located in the Waikouaiti Town Garden.

Moira's creative orbit centres around images drawn from nature, a realm she masterfully captures with an innate sensitivity. Her artistry flourishes across a diverse range of mediums, from Oamaru Stone and Marble to Mt Sumner stone and wood. Today, she finds her muse in the captivating world of New Zealand's native birds, closely collaborating with them at the Dunedin Eco-sanctuary, all while continuously crafting her exquisite sculptures.
