Anneke Bester’s passion for the Classics is recognised in her favourite themes; the beauty of the animals and an admiration for the female form. Bester does not limit her expression to what is, but to what is desired. Like the Greek art of portraying the perfect form; Anneke portrays the ideal, not just in form, but also in character and soul. As an admirer of the scholar Carl Jung and Thomas Moore, Bester strives to not take the world at face value, but rather enjoy the challenge of exploring deeper to find the underlying currents of emotion and reason. She uses the outer to express inner form and beauty. Her forms speak to the soul directly.
Bester enjoys sculpting figures, animal and freeform objects using mainly bronze in her final presentation but also paints in oils. She currently lives and works in Christchurch.
